The best cat toenail clippers / trimmers

The Best Cat Toenail Trimmers or Clippers

Hi!  I am a Professional Pet Stylist and have groomed cats and dogs since 2003.  Clipping or trimming cats’ nails is something that isn't always the best option for every owner.  However, you may have a cat that allows you to do this with ease or you may just really need to do it! lol.  Here are some of the top toenail trimmers/clippers that will easily allow you to get the job done as efficiently as possible.

Do not use a nail grinder on a cat's nails.  Cats nails can split and this could injure and scare your cat.

When looking for a cat nail clipper/trimmer.  It should be easy for you to hold and use. That is why I do not like the guillotine style.  It often blocks me from getting at the nail.   I prefer a clipper that is easy to open and close.

Here are some of the best options and my favorites as a dog and cat groomer.

But first! Styptic Powder

Even professionals will ensure they always have styptic powder on hand.  Even the most skilled person can cut the quick of a nail.  Please ensure you have styptic powder as well.

  • Benzocaine quickly helps stop bleeding from minor cuts and nail clippings which will help reduce discomfort.
  • The addition of Benzocaine eases pain and itching in minor wounds and allows for healing with minimal discomfort.
  • The main ingredient, Ferric Subsulfate, stops bleeding fast by contracting blood vessels.
  • Provides pet owners with peace of mind knowing that they will always be prepared in the event of minor, unexpected injuries.
  • Can be used on dogs, cats, and birds of all sizes and ages.

And for the nail trimmers...

JW Pet Gripsoft Cat Nail Clipper comes equipped with a rubber-sheathed handle design. This offers extreme comfortability and precision.

This Gripsoft technology features non-slip grips that are made to allow you to handle the nail trimmer easily while clipping your cats nails.

The complete Gripsoft line offers a variety of designs specifically made to address each of your pet's needs to ensure a beautifully soft and shiny coat.

 great price, great clippers
Just like the dent these clippers will make in your wallet, they are tiny! Unlike the price, however, these clippers are very high quality! They’re sharp, get the job done, and look like they’ll last a lifetime.
I prefer clippers that are not guillotine style. They allow me to easily get at the nails. The below style is similar to the above but has a different color handle and the handle is not as rubberized.
Keep your cat's nails at the proper length with Four Paws Ultimate Touch Cat Claw Clippers. These nail trimmers/clippers have a stainless-steel surgical cutting edge that gets the job done quick as a flash and without any discomfort.
  • Stainless steel edge for long-lasting sharpness
  • Quickly trims nails
  • The molded handle makes it easy to use
  • Recommended by professional groomers
  • For cats and kittens

For those with bigger hands!

  • Designed to keep nails trimmed to a comfortable length to keep them healthy, and works for cats and dogs.
  • The contoured stainless steel blade is great to accommodate all nail shapes and makes cutting the nail easier and safer.
  • Ergonomic, grip-sure handle maximizes control and comfort to make trimming nails a breeze.
  • The quick-proof design has a built-in safety guard to prevent cutting the quick.
  • Made with durable plastics and metal spring and hardware that can stand up to regular use.

There are many cat clipper/trimmer options available at chewy.com.  These two are small and easy to maneuver around your cat's feet.  They are a great option for guinea pigs as well. I hope you enjoyed the article and found it informative.  Have a great day!
